Class Descriptions


Acro
    age 9-15

    This is our athletic skill building class for dancers who want to increase strength and flexibility.  Dancers will learn the fundamentals of acrobatic/tumbling skills for dance.  It is recommended but not required that dancers take a Jazz class in addition to the Acro class.

Acro/Jazz
    age 9-15

    This is an athletic skill building class for dancers who want to increase strength and flexibility.  Dancers will learn the fundamentals of acrobatic/tumbling for dance and incorporate these skills into Jazz choreography.

Acting for Film & Stage
    age 6-adult

    This is a Master Class taught by Jeanna Phillips, Artistic Director.  Actors practice reading, writing, and dissecting scripts. Topics include commercial copy, cold readings, sight reading, audition preparation, getting the part, and character analysis.  We will have actors showcases in January and May for parents, friends, and industry professionals.

Ballerina Beauties
    age 3-4, 3-5, 4-5, 4-6

    Dancers learn Ballet terminology, choreography, and technique through acting, dancing, and singing.  Students use props, songs, and storybooks to recreate fairytale favorites.

Ballet I
    age 6-9, 7-10

    This is a fundamentals class where students are taught basic Ballet technique and terminology.  Ballet barre work and center work is done in a traditional manner to increase understanding of ballet and prepare for advanced levels.  No prior experience required; however, the student will be evaluated in the first class to verify a good fit.

Ballet I/II
    age 9-15

    This fundamentals class covers Ballet technique, terminology, and turns.  Ballet barre work and center work are done in a traditional manner.  Students begin to add more advanced movement to their repertoire.  Must have prior Ballet training.  Evaluation required.

Ballet II/III
    age 10-18

    For intermediate to advanced dancers.  This class builds on Ballet II curriculum with a focus on learning advanced steps, refining technique, and building strength through a traditional Ballet class structure.  Evaluation required.

Ballet III
    age 10-18

    For advanced dancers.  This class builds on Ballet II/III curriculum through advanced technique and steps.   This class focuses on the little details that take a dancer's technique to the next level.  Evaluation required.

Ballet/Hip Hop
    age 3-5, 3-4, 4-6, 5-6, 6-8

    Students learn Ballet and Hip Hop terminology to classical and top 40 hit music.  This combo class focuses on Ballet and then moves to Hip Hop.

Ballet/Tap
    age 2-3, 3-4, 3-5, 4-5, 4-6, 5-7, 5-6

    Students learn Ballet and Tap terminology to classical and modern music.  This combo class focuses on Ballet and then moves to Tap.  See also - Pre-Ballet/Tap.

Ballet/Tumbling
    age 2-3

    Students learn Ballet terminology and technique followed by Tumbling fun on the mat.

Cheer/Hip Hop
    age 3-5, 5-7

    This high energy class fuses Pom routines and Hip Hop choreography.  Dance with poms to the latest pop music.

Conditioning/Flexibility
    age 10-18

    This class addresses dancers' specific needs in flexibility and conditioning by combining different dance and stretch combinations.  This class is taken together with Ballet and/or Pointe.  Evaluation required.  This class will not participate in the Showcase or Recital.

Contemporary/Lyrical
    age 6-12, 9-15

    This class is an introduction to Contemporary and Lyrical dance styles, interpreting the lyrics of a song through movement.  Technique, flexibility, and musicality are the focus.

Contemporary/Lyrical II
    age 9-15, 13-18

    This intermediate class focuses on the style and technique of Contemporary dance, with a Lyrical focus.  Students learn floor warm-ups inspired by Martha Graham and develop technique and musicality through center and across-the-floor work.  Evaluation required.

Contemporary/Lyrical III
    age 10-18

    This intermediate/advanced class is a continuation of level II.  There is a stronger focus on musicality and fluidity while learning more difficult leaps and turns in combinations, across-the-floor, and choreography.  Evaluation required.

Hip Hop
    age 3-5, 4-6, 7-10, 7-12

    Students develop technical skills in a high energy fun-filled environment, incorporating the latest choreography to today's top 40 hits. All music is edited and age appropriate.

Hip Hop I/II
    age 11-18

    For beginner to intermediate dancers.  This class focuses on learning steps and building strength through Hip Hop choreography.

Hip Hop/Tap
    age 3-4

    Students develop Hip Hop skills and learn Tap terminology to high energy music. This combo class focuses on Hip Hop and then moves to Tap.

Jazz I/II
    age 7-10

    Beginner to intermediate dancers learn technique, alignment, turns, leaps, and classical Jazz.  No prior experience required; however, the student will be evaluated in the first class to verify a good fit.

Jazz II/III
    age

    Learn intermediate to advanced technique and Jazz styles.  Turns, leaps, and strengthening are main components to center work and across-the-floor combinations.  Evaluation required.

Jazz III
    age 10-18

    Strengthening technique and more advanced turns and leaps will be introduced in this advanced class.  West Coast and hard Jazz will be introduced during across the floor combinations and center work.  Evaluation required.

Jazz/Hip Hop
    age 3-5

    This class fuses beginner Jazz and Hip Hop terminology and technique, as students dance to popular radio hits.

Jazz/Tap
    age 2-3, 3-5, 4-6

    Students learn beginner Jazz and Tap terminology and technique in this high-energy class.  Students will warm up, move across the floor, and learn choreography to popular music.

Musical Theater/Jazz
    age 4-6, 7-10

    There's no business like show business!  Learn the best of Broadway, Voice, and Theatrical Jazz dance while developing performance skills.

Nutcracker Ballet
    age 3-4, 3-5, 4-6

    Learn some of the famous Nutcracker dances! Dancers work on Ballet technique, terms, and choreography set to Nutcracker soundtrack. This class transitions to Sleeping Beauty in February for the remainder of the dance season.

Nutcracker Minis
    age 2-3

    Dancers learn beginner Ballet basics, terms, and choreography set the Nutcracker soundtrack. This class transitions to Sleeping Beauty in February for the remainder of the dance season.

Pointe I
    age 10-18

    A solid foundation of intermediate Ballet technique is required for Pointe I.  Dancers refine their technique and build strength through basic barre and center work.  Dancers begin in flat shoes and transition to Pointe shoes once approved.  Must also register for Ballet II/III, immediately preceding this class.  Evaluation required.

Pointe II
    age 10-18

    Dancers have several years on Pointe at this level.  Pointe II builds on Pointe I, adding more intermediate movement and choreography.  Must also register for Ballet III and Conditioning/Flexibility, immediately preceding this class.  Evaluation required.

Pre-Ballet
    age 4-5, 5-7, 5-6, 6-8

    Students learn Ballet technique and terminology in this fundamentals class.  Barre and center work are introduced in preparation for Ballet I.

Pre-Ballet/Tap
    age 6-8

    Students learn Ballet and Tap terminology to classical and modern music.  This combo class focuses on Pre-Ballet and then moves to Tap.  Students are introduced to the barre in preparation for Ballet I.

Tap I
    age 6-10

    Learn Tap basics in this introduction class. Set to fun pop music, you will learn fun Tap moves such as shuffle ball-changes, shuffle toe-hops, flaps, back flaps, Shirley Temples, buffalos, maxi fords, paradiddles, and cramp-rolls. It is recommended that students have mastered a Pre-Ballet/Tap class but not required.

Tap II
    age 9-15

    In this intermediate approach to Tap you will learn favorites including single and double time steps, buffalo and max ford turns, Cincinnati's, wings, toe stands, running shuffles, and double Irish steps. Evaluation required.

Teen/Adult Ballet
    age 15-adult

    This Ballet class includes traditional barre, center work, and across the floor movement, as well as conditioning exercises for the Ballet body. All levels welcome.

Teen/Adult Contemporary/Lyrical
    age 15-adult

    This class is an introduction to Contemporary and Lyrical dance styles, interpreting the lyrics of a song through movement.  Technique, flexibility, and musicality are the focus.

Teen/Adult Hip Hop
    age 15-adult

    In this upbeat class dancers develop skills in high-energy movement and technique, work on conditioning for strength and flexibility, and create Hip Hop choreography to fun, top 40 hits!  All levels welcome.

Teen/Adult Tap II/III
    age 15-adult

    This is a intermediate/advanced class.  Join us in a fun, relaxed environment where we tap to Broadway and Top 40 music.  Learn steps and choreography.

Tots N Tutus
    age 18m-2, 2-3

    This class is an introduction to the world of Ballet and basic movement skills.  Dancers learn Ballet terminology through creative movement and manipulative play.  Grown-up participates in 18m-2yrs classes.
